Work with us

Finance Officer – 1 day a week, £30K pro-rata (£500 pcm)
Apply by: 10th March
Start date: 25th March 2024
Period: 10 months+
Basis: Freelance / contract

We’re looking for an experienced finance officer to join our small team. You’ll be working remotely, one day a week, to support Bad Betty’s operations and funding processes, through day-to-day financial management, and periodic reporting and budgeting. This position is for an initial period of 10 months, in line with our current ACE-funded programme, with the possibility to extend, dependent on future funding.

Responsibilities:

  • Accurate record keeping for all daily transactions, including processing accounts payable, accounts receivable and author royalty payments; making bank deposits, payments and completing reconciliations
  • Timely monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting, including sales, royalties, end-of project and as required by funders
  • Budget preparation including for ACE-funded artistic programmes
  • Coordinate with external auditors/independent examiners to carry out financial audits and comply with regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Ensure tax compliance and liaise with tax authorities.
  • Provide financial advice and guidance to business leaders to support strategic planning and decision-making processes, and development and implementation of financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations

Who we’re looking for:

Our ideal candidate is a positive and pragmatic individual, with the skills and confidence to hit the ground running, following an initial handover period. You’ll help us to sharpen our financial capabilities and efficiency, and be comfortable offering advice and recommendations to that effect. Knowledge of the UK poetry / publishing world is helpful but not a deal breaker. We’re an inclusive, queer-run organisation, and believe that a diverse workforce is vital to the continued health of the publishing industry. We’re keen to hear from a broad range of applicants, regardless of race, age, gender, socioeconomic background, sexuality or disability.

How to apply:

Please email Bad Betty directors, Amy Acre and Jake Wild Hall, at info@badbettypress.com, with ‘Finance Officer’ as the subject, telling us a little about yourself, your past experience and why you’re interested in the role, along with a cv / resume. Deadline: 10th March, 23:59.
